An Investment For Life

How much is your life worth?

When you are healthy, you may not be willing to pay much for medical care.  However, for someone who is sick, they would pay any amount to get better.  The value of something is based on what someone will pay for it.

Most of us buy life insurance because, in the event something happens to us, our family members will receive the insurance money, which is substantially higher than what was paid.  However, that usually means the insured is no longer around (or is incapacitated).

Here’s the thing though – When you invest in the Live By Design Practitioner program, you have the opportunity to change your life forever.

As an accountant would explain it – let’s say the program costs USD 3,000.  And let’s say you are now 30 years old, so we estimate you will be working for the next 30 years.  If you are able to change your life today, the investment of USD3,000 spread over 30 years is only USD 100 per year, or about USD 8 per month, or a mere USD 2 per week, or – and this will blow your mind – less than 30 cents per day!

Imagine – your investment in yourself, in improving, enhancing and bettering yourself, is less than the cost of a cup of coffee per day.

That is probably the best investment you are going to make. One that starts paying ‘dividends’ immediately, where you and your family members and friends will benefit, rather than wait for something to happen to claim the insurance.  And you will surely continue to benefit for the rest of your life.  The return on your investment will be many times greater than the money you pay and you will reap the rewards every day.

So when someone asks me, why they should pay to join our program, I ask them how much their life is worth.

A great big HELLO to everyone!

How time flies by! It seems like I was just wishing all of you Happy New Year yesterday, when in fact we’re already a month into 2013!

So how was your January 2013? How many of you started it by making new year resolutions? If you did so by setting S.M.A.R.T. goals and are well on your way to realizing them, then congratulations on your tenacity & determination, and I wish you the best of luck in your endeavors!

Sometimes though, resolutions can be a hit-and-miss affair if it’s more of a ‘wish’ list. As you think of the year ahead, what do you see yourself achieving? What are you thinking? How do you feel? The good news is, with the right skills, you can make that wish list into a YES list!

We’ve got a fantastic line-up of courses planned for the whole year and there’s bound to be one (or more) that is suitable for your needs & schedule. In response to growing demand for specialized NLP programs which focus on specific topics, we have some very exciting programs for the corporate market, in particular Applied NLP in Sales. This program is based on my book Using Psychological Techniques in Selling. Whether you are selling products, services or simply yourself, this program promises potential, profits and power-packed breakthroughs.

Another one that I’m very excited about is our Live By Design Practitioner program. This 8-day program is very dear to me as it gives me the opportunity to personally know the participants. Emotional baggage, inner conflicts, phobias, limiting beliefs… all removed, released & resolved! Seeing participants achieve such tremendous breakthroughs certainly motivates us even more to continue doing what we do, transforming people inspiring lives.

For those who wish to take their learning further, we have the Live By Design Master Practitioner program. For those who are determined about becoming a trainer, we have the NLP Trainers’ Training that is certified by ABNLP (American Board of NLP) and internationally recognized. So if you think about it, when you take all 3 programs this year, by the end of 2013 you will become a full-fledged NLP Trainer! How awesome is that!

Did you know that we are the only training company in the region which offers all this training, especially at the Trainer level, and also the only company in the region with two NLP Master Trainers? I would also like to humbly announce that as of now, I’m the only NLP Master Trainer certified by both ABNLP and NLP University, plus I have the honor of being the first Hypnotherapy Master Trainer in South-East Asia.

Such accomplishments would not have been possible without your constant support. I thank each and everyone one of you for joining me on life’s great journey. Now let us all make 2013 EXCEPTIONAL, EXCITING & EXTRAORDINARY!

President Obama’s second term – the influencing power of words

By | ABNLP, Applied NLP in Business, Billy Kueek, Change, Coaching, Corporate training, Hypnosis, NLP, Personal Development, Time Line Therapy, Training, Weight Loss

As President Obama is sworn into his second term as President of the United States, I thought this would be a good time to briefly mention how NLP and Hypnosis is used in our daily lives without us even knowing most of the time.  From advertisements to the media, from politicians to salesmen, and our own parents could have used hypnotic language patterns and linguistic patterns in their communication, knowingly or unknowingly.

Both Presidents Obama and Clinton have a team of advisors which include NLP Master Practitioners who review their speeches to ensure that they include the appropriate linguistics to resonate with their audiences.  In business, NLP can certainly help in communication during negotiations in order to influence the listener and get the message across.

Advertisements use NLP Linguistics to influence your buying habits.  For example, the ad may read like this – ‘buying this washing powder means you love your family’. In NLP, this is called a context reframe because if you think about it, how would using a particular washing powder mean that you love your family.  But that is exactly what the message implies.

Or when a salesman repeatedly tells you ‘by now’ in his sales patter, what he is really saying to you is ‘buy now’.  We call this embedded command where the instruction or command is embedded into a sentence so that the unconscious mind picks it up.

So when you think about it, everyone and anyone is able to influence others by being more conscious and aware of the word choices used.  For the next few days, try focusing on the words others & yourself use and listen out for any hypnotic language or linguistic patterns in their communication. You may be surprised just how often it pops up!

Living By Design

By | ABNLP, Billy Kueek, Change, Coaching, Corporate training, Hypnosis, NLP, Personal Development, Time Line Therapy, Training, Weight Loss

“If only I had learnt this 20 years ago …” is one of the most common feedback I get from participants after they graduate from our Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), Time Line Therapy and Hypnotherapy Practitioner training program  (also known as Live by Design).  For one young man, he certainly did.

Zachary Tan was just 16+ years old when his mother enrolled him for our Practitioner training.  Having faced some medical issues, Zachary was (like many 16 year olds) busy enjoying life, not too keen on focusing on studies, not very motivated to do much.  His parents had heard about NLP and decided that it was worth investing in the program for their eldest son.  So Zachary joined our program in January 2012 and after 8 days, he became the youngest certified NLP Practitioner in Singapore and Malaysia!

What was more important is that he realised the power of what he had learned and wanted to apply his new-found knowledge to help his friends (and at the same time, start earning some money to pay for his Master Practitioner training).  By then, Zachary had already decided that he was going to become a Master Practitioner, in August 2013.  He was focused on passing his exams and doing well in school so that he could become a role model for other teenagers and help them through coaching.

However, the story does not end there.  In October 2012, Zachary decided he did not want to delay his learning any further and rather than wait till August 2013, he enrolled for the November 2012 Master Practitioner training.  On 1 December 2012, at the tender age of 17 years and 4 months, Zachary Tan became one of the youngest certified NLP Master Practitioners in the world.  During the 15-day program, he worked with fellow participants, some of whom were many years older than him and they commented on his maturity, understanding and grasp of the subject matter and his professionalism as a coach.  He certainly held his own, in spite of his age and limited life experiences.

My team and I are proud of all our graduates, and especially delighted for Zachary for he has all the tools at his disposal and can live his life by design.  To learn NLP at his age, he has an even brighter future and we wish him every success!  Congratulations Zachary Tan!  And who knows, he may yet become the youngest NLP Trainer in Asia.

NLP can change me

By | ABNLP, Applied NLP in Business, Billy Kueek, Change, Coaching, Corporate training, Hypnosis, NLP, Personal Development, Time Line Therapy, Training

… and it did!

This is an email I received from one of my graduates who attended our Live By Design Certification Training and was certified as NLP and Time Line Therapy(TM) Practitioner, Professional Hypnotherapist and Impact System(c) Coach which I wanted to share.

Dear Billy,

I really had to write to you to thank you and your team for changing my life.  Having completed your LBD program, I have come home a new person who is able to face life with renewed energy and I am feeling so positive about what lies ahead.

I must admit that when I attended your preview session and heard you talk about NLP and Hypnotherapy, I was hesitant.  So many thoughts ran through my head at that time.  Was it really possible that you can achieve so much in 8 days?  Surely there must be a catch.

Then I worried about what the ‘new me’ would be like.  I thought that I would change and my friends would not know me, or maybe like the new me.  And would I lose my identity if I changed.  All these worries, all these questions and I am sure I am not the only person who has these concerns.

All I can say now is that YES I did change, in just 8 days and I love the new me.  My family members and my friends do as well.  They say that they see me smiling so much now and that I have a glow and they are happy for me.  My worries were unfounded and I am glad I ignored them and came for the program.

Dealing with issues that I did not even know existed because they were deeply locked in my unconscious mind, working on minor blockages that were holding me back and just letting go of emotional baggage and negativity – all this has lightened my load.  I feel so free and light now.  I am so grateful to my fellow participant who worked as my coach in the Breakthrough session.  Somehow, she just knew what questions to ask to get to my problems and dealt with them professionally.

The program is worth every cent I paid.. a worthwhile investment in myself.  Thank you for your wonderful program.  It is reassuring to know that there are people like you and your team who care about others and truly wish to make a difference to others.

Yes, NLP changed me, for the better!  Thank you, Billy!

With Gratitude,

Your graduate

To be a Certified Trainer – NLP, Hypnotherapy and Time Line Therapy

By | ABNLP, Billy Kueek, Change, Coaching, Corporate training, Hypnosis, NLP, Personal Development, Time Line Therapy, Train The Trainer, Training

There is growing interest to become certified trainers especially in the field of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), Time Line Therapy (TLT) and Hypnotherapy.  At Billy Kueek International, we offer certification at trainer level in all three under the American Board of NLP (ABNLP), Time Line Therapy Association (TLTA) and American Board of Hypnotherapy (ABH).

In order to get certified in each of these, there are a few steps to follow:

  1. Certification as Practitioner
  2. Certification as Master Practitioner
  3. Certification as Trainer
  4. Certification as Master Trainer (exception TLT)

Practitioners and Master Practitioners can be coaches, utilising the skills and techniques they have learned during their program.

Trainers can certify Practitioners and Master Practitioners and Master Trainers certify Trainers.

Do note that with TLT, you must be certified in NLP first, therefore, to become a TLT trainer, you must first be a NLP trainer.  Also, with TLT, you are first certified as a TLT Practitioner trainer, then if you wish to train Master Practitioners, there is an additional certification.  And there is no Master Trainer certification for TLT as yet.

Billy Kueek International offers training in all 3 disciplines at Practitioner and Master Practitioner level and we certify Trainers in NLP and Hypnotherapy.  We can also facilitate TLT Practitioner Training certification which is obtained directly from TLTA.  For now, BKI is probably the only training company in South-East Asia offering training at all 3 levels, with our Master Trainers and Trainers in NLP and Hypnotherapy.

Hypnotherapy – the facts behind the myths

By | Addiction, Billy Kueek, Change, Coaching, Hypnosis, Personal Development, Weight Loss

Whenever I tell anyone that I am a Hypnotherapy Master Trainer, I get two different types of reaction.  The first is where they are very interested to know more about hypnosis and what it can do, and if I can hypnotize their friends (and notice how it is their friends and not themselves).  The other is where they avoid eye contact, afraid that I may start to hypnotize them.

Having used hypnosis as part of my coaching work for the past 15 years, I have found it to be one of the best techniques to use and it helps in most situations.  Be it increasing confidence, managing stress, stop smoking, kicking alcoholism, weight management, emotional mastery, getting rid of phobias, improving memory and concentration or even enhancing male sexual health, hypnotherapy has helped millions to tackle their personal issues, easily and permanently.

Of course, there are many misconceptions about hypnosis, not helped by the artistic license used by the media to create hype.  Some common misconceptions are:

  • Only weak-minded people can be hypnotized
  • Hypnosis is sleep
  • Fear of not being dehypnotized
  • That hypnosis is harmful
  • There is revelation of secrets
  • Loss of control and being controlled ie surrender of will
  • Loss of consciousness

All these are certainly untrue.  Of course, it is important to choose the right hypnotherapist.  Note that I use the term hypnotherapist and not hypnotist.  The difference is that the hypnotherapist uses hypnosis for therapy, while the hypnotist usually is a performer or entertainer.

There may also be some confusion about the trance state.  This is because each person experiences trance differently.  With a light trance, you may feel like you are totally aware of what the hypnotherapist is saying to you and that you are actually not in a trance, while those who are in a deep trance may almost be sound asleep and be unaware of his surroundings.  Whatever level of trance a person goes into is perfectly fine, since the objective of trance is to bypass the critical faculty and communicate directly with the unconscious (or some refer to it assubconscious) mind.

If you would like to know more about hypnotherapy, whether as a client or to become a hypnotherapist, do contact for information about our coaching services and our programs.

Being a Professional Trainer and Speaker

By | ABNLP, Billy Kueek, Coaching, Corporate training, Hypnosis, NLP, Training

This week’s blog is a little late as I am actually in Las Vegas for training, and therefore, with the time difference, I am still on Sunday!

As a professional trainer and speaker, I travel around and speak to an approximate number of 500 to 1,000 audiences in a month. From time to time, I get emails asking questions on how I began my journey and how I achieve what I achieved with my team. I have repeatedly reply to these emails and now I thought, might as well share it with all, in the form of a note like this.

In NLP, we teach a technique called Strategy Elicitation for Modeling Success. NLP began as a modeling technique so practitioners in NLP can model the strategies of successful individuals and organizations, so that they too, can enjoy successful results, learning from successful people.

In this spirit, an NLP Master Practitioner from Holland, whom I have had the privilege to meet, wrote an email and asked me these questions:

Question: How did you get started and the processes you took to get where you are now?

Answer: I got started in training because my construction business failed, with me owing personal debts of several hundreds of thousands of dollars.. With S$100 in the pocket, I started the training business as a proprietorship, because it is easy to start and getting a job ain’t going to help me repay the massive debts. It took me 7 months before I got my first paid sales training contract with a lap top retailer in Singapore. That was my first S$800 training paid job. From the start, I am always looking out for opportunities to speak in front of crowds, offering my services for free and still, had people rejecting me. Purposes of which are to get myself known to others and showcase my capabilities as well as hoping that someone in the crowd will like what I did and offer me a training contract. The other purpose is to get myself in front of crowd so I can learn training delivery and hone my skills, which I did not have any prior formal training in. Now, this is the main reason for my team and I offering the MasterClass Train-The-Trainer so that we can help short-cut the learning curve of aspiring trainers and professional trainers who can do better, to help them double their income as a professional trainer, coach and speaker. At the ninth month, 2 ladies in a crowd I was speaking at one evening came up to me after my speech and asked me for a meeting. Turned out they worked for a US MNC and they booked me twice a month for an entire year, and with traveling exposure to the region. That really got me started.

Question: At the beginning did you already know what you wanted to do or was that something that became evident as you did all the trainings?

Answer: I went into training because the economy was really down at that time and job interviews got me no where. The people who were interviewing me seemed more afraid that I will take over their job at a lower salary, since I was desperate. I just figured that I have a good heart with the right intention and I should be blessed. Of course, I use my knowledge and learning in NLP to elicit my values (the driving forces within me) and discovered that my values are aligned with the profession of training and motivational speaking.

English was a problem too, I was one of the students teachers would rather not have in their class, as I would drag the grade of the entire class down in terms of performance. As I began delivering training and speeches, I realized that I enjoyed it. Let’s face it, if doing work that benefits and impact people does not make one satisfied, I really cannot think of anything else that is as meaningful as training. One of life’s greatest moment is when your name appears in someone else’s testimonial. This, is what I kept in mind whenever I faced challenges and there were plenty – the months of tightening my belt (I could go on just rice and a slice of meat daily for months), the money required in the family and my own expenses, etc etc… I didn’t even have a printer to print proposals.

I started because I had very limited options and I remembered in one of my earlier jobs, that my Deputy General Manager told me that I had tremendous ability to motivate others and have others listened to me when I speak.

Therefore, I started by ‘accident’ and grew to love training.

Question: When you started at the beginning, did learning NLP make you hungry for more knowledge of NLP?

Answer: NLP is a wonder tool so I was attracted to the results it produced right from the start. This is further fortified whenever I run an NLP Practitioner Certification Training as part of our Live By Design program. This year, we ran 3 programs already with the last one coming up in October 2012 in Singapore.  And we are also running the NLP Master Practitioner in November 2912 in KL, Malaysia. We’ve had people who are addicts for years, suicidal, relationship problems and burdened by loads of negative emotions… And during the class of 5 short days, we’ve successfully helped them rid of all these negativities and move on with their life with hope, possibilities and positiveness.

Hence, my pursue of NLP and Time Line Therapy(R) to a very deep level. Call this a success strategy, I will only do things to the best of my ability and nothing short of being significance, excellence is easy. Therefore, when I do something, I want to make sure I am doing it at the level of absolute best, nothing short of it.

Question: Do you “love” your work or it is something you do just to make money or maintain a lifestyle that you want?

Answer: I absolutely love what I do! the money was a ‘by-the-way’. It took me years to earn ‘good’ money in the business. Let’s face it, businesses must be profit-driven and so, its a balancing act.

Basically, my team and I will not do anything that does not benefit our clients and in exchange, they pay for our services.

When you are good at what you do, you earn good money. When you are excellent, you earn excellent income.

The act of giving already begins the process of receiving! The more you give, the more you receive. The lifestyle is a ‘given’ when you become excellent at what you do. So, enjoy your success, pamper and reward yourself, I believe this is fair.

When doing coaching and mentoring with aspiring trainers and my graduates of the MasterClass Train-The-Trainer, I have the following questions and recommendations:

a. Passion – Do your values elicitation on career. If they are aligned, you have passion for it within you and it is easier to set your sail according to the wind.

b. Power – Do a skills inventory, if you have the knowledge, skills and abilities, you have Power. If you have Passion in the profession but is lacking in power, know that skills, knowledge and abilities can be developed and you must act now.

c. Profit – Do an industry check, if there’s demand in the market, you’ll have profit potential. It is then about doing the right things right.

Yes, there will always be the good, the bad and the ugly. behind the scenes, there are lots of hard work, late nights, lack of sleep and sacrifices. And, no amount of what I share will give you an accurate picture unless you get your feet wet and that is why my graduates took on our mentorship packages to travel with us, assist us in training programs, basically camping with us to learn the inside-out.

Do you have the Passion, Power and Profit Potential?

I will be running the MasterClass Train the Trainer program from 19 to 23 September 2012 in Kuala Lumpur and it may be the last one for a while, or maybe even forever.  Therefore if you have ever wanted to become a trainer or would like to improve your training skills, then come and find out my tips and techniques that I will happily share with you during the program.

Hypnotherapy de-bunked

By | Billy Kueek, Change, Coaching, Hypnosis, Personal Development, Training, Weight Loss

Hypnosis is as old as recorded history.  The word hypnosis comes from the Greek word ‘hypnos‘ which means sleep though in hypnosis, you are not asleep.  Instead, you are in a trance state where your Unconscious Mind (or some refer to it as the subconscious mind) is open to suggestions.

All of us have been in a trance state before, but probably were not aware of that.  When we are so engrossed in a book, watching a movie or television program, where we are not aware of sounds or people around us, we were in a trance.

When you are in a trance, do not expect to feel hypnotized.  Clients think that the trance state is significantly different from when they are conscious.  However, this is not the case.  When you are in a light trance, you feel relaxed.  Trance is just a normal, natural state.  And in fact, no matter how deep in trance you do, you will just feel relaxed, with increasing levels of relaxation.

During trance, you are in control and in charge.  Therefore, you will only accept suggestions that are consistent with your values and beliefs.   For example, if the hypnotist were to suggest that you rob a bank, you would not do it.  However, if the suggestion was to stand up and it was OK, you would do it.

Everyone can go into trance, they just have to learn how.  There may be some reservations due to misconceptions that they may have about hypnosis.  Some general misconceptions are:

  • hypnosis is sleep and there is loss of consciousness.
  • there is loss of control and surrender of will.
  • you will reveal your secrets.
  • you may not be dehypnotized.
  • being hypnotizable means you are gullible or weakminded.
  • hypnosis is harmful.
