Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) as explained by NLP Master Trainers Dr Billy Kueek

Since we began marketing for our June LBD (Live By Design) Practitioner Certification Training Program, a class has been formed for June Intake in Singapore.  As the response was overwhelming, our original plan to conduct the training in our Singapore office has to be changed and we have finalized agreement to use the big Training Room in DWG (Dennis Wee Group) Properties.

The popularity of the program brought in many referrals and of course, generated much curiosity in Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) as well as LBD.  In this article, I aim to equip you with what Neuro Linguistic Programming or NLP results you can achieve when you do NLP.

NLP stands for Neuro Linguistic Programming, founded by Bandler, Grinder and Frank in 1970s at University of California, Santa Cruz.  Since then, Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) has branched out into many societies and Associations, Institutions and Groups.

By | ABNLP, Billy Kueek, Change, Coaching, Corporate training, NLP, Personal Development, Success, Train The Trainer, Training

Article contributed by NLP Master Trainers Dr Billy Kueek & Lim Kit Wan

In a recent survey conducted earlier this year, it is reported that soft skills are worth over £88 billion (more than RM476 billion) in gross value added to the UK economy each year, making it an important contribution to the service industry. Another large-scale survey conducted in the USA found that the top attributes companies look for when hiring new employees are communication skills (83%) and the ability to work within a team (74%).

Where qualifications, credentials and experience are important factor in determining whether someone gets offered their dream job, soft skills are the vital deciding factor as to whether someone will succeed in their career.

Hence soft skills are being highly valued by more and more companies now as they realize how these skills directly contribute to the wellbeing of the organization. Soft skills are also increasingly being recognized as key competencies that working adults need in order to secure employment and succeed in their chosen field.

My Journey: Live By Design

By | ABNLP, Billy Kueek, Change, Coaching, Hypnosis, NLP, Personal Development, Time Line Therapy

Personal sharing of Jessica (24 years old) on her experience during a certification program conducted by Billy Kueek International

“Life is like a camera,

Focus on what’s important,

Capture the good times,

Develop from the negatives

And if things don’t work out,

Take another shot.

This quote perfectly sums up my LBD (Live By Design) journey organized by Billy Kueek International (BKI). LBD is short for Live By Design and not by default, a program which has benefitted me tremendously as it shows me how to live my life according to my own principles and own values, and not according to other people’s expectations. In our society or culture, there are no shortages of cases where people, friends and family members “recommend” how we should live our life, what work or job we should pursue, what course we should study, what to eat… and the list goes on. I am pretty sure all of us to do it – whether consciously or unconsciously – and I have had my fair share of being on the receiving end of these incidences as well while growing up.

In a nutshell, I became obsessed with how other people viewed me, or what they thought of me, and hence I became pessimistic. I was frequently angry, irritated and had lots of negative thoughts in my head. I became withdrawn, fearful of talking to people or strangers – fearful of them judging me and my appearance. I even dreaded going to parties and social gatherings because I would panic thinking about: “What if someone starts talking to me, and then compares me with my sibling (twin sister)?”

Hanging Tough

By | Billy Kueek, Change, Personal Development, Success

Note from Dr Billy – Recent events have led me to reminisce, reflect and re-focus on life. And as I pondered, I remembered this one article entitled “The Cycle of Grief” that was published in the Straits Times some time ago, and I feel it’s timely to share it now.

Yet again, we are subjected to unpredictable economic conditions. Perhaps unpredictable is not the word as there have been many warning signs before we confirmed that we are in a technical recession.

Business process re-engineering, cost cutting and retrenchment are terms that enjoyed much publicity during these difficult times.

Therefore, in many people’s mind, the thoughts are “What do we do?” and “What happens if…?

Being out of a job is a catastrophic experience for many of us and this experience can be mentally, physically and emotionally harmful for some people.

Losing the lifeline can be a very stressful experience. As much as these are natural reactions, there are responses that one can adopt. These will help us to move on with our lives positively.

Perhaps a simple example would help you recall a time when you had to face challenges and rise upon them.

In my workshops on change management, I sometimes start by getting people to change seats and then I take a poll. Not surprisingly, I will learn that most people resist the idea at first (well, some admitted that they detest it while the majority indicated a little resistance).

My next question however, also generates a unanimous answer: As much as we dislike change and getting out of our comfort zone, we also settle in the new environment or situation very quickly.

We all have the natural ability to adapt to change and challenges. Some rise to it while others falter.

The Cycle of Grief
We experience a cycle of grief when we lose our jobs. Michael Farr, author of “The Quick Job Search“, proposes that we go through the grief in stages, namely shock, denial, anger or shame, depression and finally acceptance.

Shock occurs when we are surprised by the bad news and when the dreadful happens to us. Denial comes next when we cannot come to terms with the loss. Anger and shame then crop up resulting in us justifying, blaming and finger pointing.

Unfortunately, our society is a judgmental one that is quite unforgiving and that intensifies the feelings of anger and shame.

After some time, depression sets in and finally, we accept the reality and then summon the energy and motivation to move ahead.

Understandably, different people have different timeframes to reach the desired state of acceptance where we begin anew and seek a new job or a new area of interest to pursue our career.

The most important thing at this juncture is to understand the stages that we go through inevitably and get out of it fast. The sooner we deal with it, the faster we accept reality and the earlier we move on. Remember, there is a difference between failing and being a failure.

Let’s move on
The pain-pleasure principle of motivation states that those motivated by pain will move faster in these tough times but those motivated by pleasure can take time off to visualise a positive future state and create the urge to surge ahead.

Coaching Children for Success

By | ABNLP, Applied NLP in Business, Billy Kueek, Change, Coaching, Corporate training, Hypnosis

How many of us had grand plans when we were younger – wanting to run a major corporation, be the best tennis player in the world, become President – and yet, how many of us actually see our plans turn into reality? What stopped us from achieving them? And more importantly, can we do anything about it?

There are also those who do achieve their goals and are very successful and still have this feeling of emptiness within themselves, that there is something missing.

If you feel that there is something holding you back from becoming the person you were meant to be, then you should speak to a coach who will help you discover what is truly important to you, what is the purpose you so desperately seek yet did not know it was missing and help you live a rich and full life.

Coaching is a form of personal development where the coach and the client work closely together to help the client achieve their goals. Coaching is applied in many areas of life, from sports to business to personal, depending on the client’s needs.

The coaching relationship is a special one. In order for it to work, you must first be prepared to work on whatever problems may arise. Secondly, you must be open to sharing as it is by being open that the coach is able to discover the root of the problem and therefore address the issue. The coach has been professionally trained and is the best person to help you so let him do his job. There have been times when we see clients telling coaches what they think the problem is and how the coach should help them.

Different types of coaching

Life coaching – the coach facilitates the client’s growth in work and also in personal life.

Executive coaching – usually client is senior management or higher and the coach works on business related issues as well as on client’s personal development with the focus on achieving better business performance and results.

Parent coaching – to help the client improve their parenting skills and help their children lead happy, balanced lives.

Sports coaching – coaching the client to improve and develop their sports skills. The coach is not necessarily a sports trainer, but rather one who focuses on the client’s mindset, to think like a winner.

Depending on the client’s specific needs, there are many more forms of coaching that are available.  Billy Kueek International certifies Impact System© coaches, in our Live By Design Practitioner Certification Training, who use a combination of NLP, Time Line Therapy™, Hypnotherapy and Emotional Intelligence to help their clients in a variety of areas.

NLP and Parenting

By | ABNLP, Billy Kueek, Change, Coaching, Hypnosis, NLP, Personal Development, Time Line Therapy, Training

As a parent, were there times when you were frustrated because you could not help your child in times of need? Are you equipped with the right tools and knowledge to guide your child? What skills can you develop or learn in order to be your child’s best coach and to be the best parent you can be?

Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) offers the most powerful tools to improve the chances of success in life. Prominent success coach Anthony Robbins, world-class tennis player Andre Agassi and award-winning TV host Oprah Winfrey are all practitioners of NLP.

Think of NLP as a toolbox for life. It can help you to help your child set the right goals in the right way and discover their passion and purpose in life. NLP can help to create powerful beliefs that will help your child achieve, enhance their learning strategies and generate positive behaviours.

NLP is whatever works on a daily basis. By understanding your child better – how he thinks, how he interprets information, how he learns – parents will be able to achieve outstanding results.

Apart from helping your child, you will also learn techniques to manage your own state better, to liberate yourself from limiting beliefs, and how to tap on your inner wisdom for problem resolution.

An Investment For Life

By | ABNLP, Addiction, Applied NLP in Business, Billy Kueek, Change, Coaching, Corporate training, Hypnosis, NLP, Personal Development, Time Line Therapy, Train The Trainer, Training, Weight Loss

How much is your life worth?

When you are healthy, you may not be willing to pay much for medical care.  However, for someone who is sick, they would pay any amount to get better.  The value of something is based on what someone will pay for it.

Most of us buy life insurance because, in the event something happens to us, our family members will receive the insurance money, which is substantially higher than what was paid.  However, that usually means the insured is no longer around (or is incapacitated).

Here’s the thing though – When you invest in the Live By Design Practitioner program, you have the opportunity to change your life forever.

As an accountant would explain it – let’s say the program costs USD 3,000.  And let’s say you are now 30 years old, so we estimate you will be working for the next 30 years.  If you are able to change your life today, the investment of USD3,000 spread over 30 years is only USD 100 per year, or about USD 8 per month, or a mere USD 2 per week, or – and this will blow your mind – less than 30 cents per day!

Imagine – your investment in yourself, in improving, enhancing and bettering yourself, is less than the cost of a cup of coffee per day.

That is probably the best investment you are going to make. One that starts paying ‘dividends’ immediately, where you and your family members and friends will benefit, rather than wait for something to happen to claim the insurance.  And you will surely continue to benefit for the rest of your life.  The return on your investment will be many times greater than the money you pay and you will reap the rewards every day.

So when someone asks me, why they should pay to join our program, I ask them how much their life is worth.
